Mid-Week Reads

If you're interested in management, read this on using influence to get things done. I see my boss using some of these (and believe you me, she's the best boss ever.)

Read this lovely tribute to Anant Pai. The author also created this awesome graphic novel, which you should read if you haven't yet.

Hillary Clinton says: "I am often asked why on earth do I believe that women and girls are a national security issue."

A lovely plea for understanding towards trans people.

Apu has a thoughtful post up on how much we should consume. Somewhat related to ecosystems: I am so glad that the pigeons (and I persist in believing they are the same pair, though I have no way of making sure) nested again on an empty planter in our balcony. Last year was a disaster: the eggs disappeared after a storm and I have no idea what happened. This year, we're waiting and watching and trying to give them as much privacy as we can. (We do need to hang up clothes and water the plants, though, and they hate us intruding.) We had bulbuls in the kitchen window last year: no sign of them yet. And while I'm glad they are here, isn't it sad they couldn't find a better place to lay their eggs than the pot where they put in a few stray twigs to pretend it's a 'real' nest? (Or maybe they're just lazy.)

While on consumption, check out Miss Minimalist. I couldn't live a minimalist lifestyle, but reading about it helps curb some of my consuming urges.

Courtesy the Mad Momma, here's why childless couples are happier (of course we are). Not convinced? Here's more. Most importantly (at least, for me): couples who choose not to have kids have more satisfying marriages.

I loved reading about the moment when this blogger grew up. Did you have a moment?

- hey the first management link requires a log in?
- Childless couples might have a great time but I guess having to create/adopt a life for whom u are responsible for as a team gives more meaning to a couples life :)

Gayatri: Yeah, sorry about that link. It's free, though, if you care to subscribe.

And I don't think "having to" do something can give your life meaning, though it can definitely teach you a lot.

Read the tribute for Uncle Pai. He deserved it!
