I received this email recently, which I'm reproducing without comment.
Hi,UTV ( software and Communications) is producing a unique tv show for an international Hindi tv channel.This TV show is a daily series made up of the video diaries of women who honestly and courageously share their lives with the viewers without any filters or defense mechanisms.The show will be an incredible journey into the very real lives of women in a way you've never seen them before.This show will raise moral dilemmas and conflicts, and leave us to find the answer for ourselves.This show is a voyage into the self in today's world, taken through the voyages of its characters.We wish to invite you to be a part of this unique show,kindly revert me asapgreetings

"Very real lives of women in a way you've never seen them before." Because of course, people don't know any women in real life.
Errr...doesnt it sound too fake...but again, I have no experience in media AT ALL!!!
I didn't read into the text or analyze it... just assumed it was on similar lines as this:

And by very real lives of women, I imagined it would something like Amir Khan's TV show where they discuss things that happen in everyday life but that noone wants to acknowledge. In this case it could be something as simple as multi-tasking, ATD, feminism, etc.

R's Mom: That was my first thought too. But no one else seems to think so, and people (okay, one person) have been contacting me trying to persuade me to sign up!
P: You may be right--I hadn't seen that post. In any case, I would not want to open my life up to TV viewers.
Besides which, given that my day goes something like this, no one would really be interested...
8.30 a.m. Some kind of breakfast and chat with the Guy
9 a.m. Grab computer and start working and reading
12 p.m. Jump up, remembering I have to shower before water runs out
1 p.m. Open various blogs, get lunch, plop down on my chair again and juggle my plate and the laptop
2 p.m. Get on with work
4 p.m. Still working
6 p.m. Jump up, having remembered to spend a few minutes on the balcony before it gets dark, maybe make tea.
6.15 p.m. Back to work
8 p.m. Stop working, call the Guy to find out when he's coming, heat up leftovers for dinner
Etc. etc. Riveting, I know.
I agree most of our days are dreary... what about the time when you volunteer for FOC? This could be a platform for spreading the word about that organization which is close to your heart :) Or maybe you could ask Aparna and others to talk about their lives... I'm not for having the camera in your face all day, but it would be nice to talk about the good things you do. We all know how badly we need positive news and experience to reach the masses! Innit?
I don't volunteer with FOC (much) anymore. I'm going to be coaching one student for about half an hour a week, that's it.
And I don't think they'd let me make the rules. In any case, no, I'm not touching this with a ten-foot pole.
Heh. I'm not saying you should do it. :D
I'm just saying that if done right, this could be a good platform for spreading positive news, and much-needed ideas (and practical examples of those ideas) like benefits of equality of the sexes, how working for an NGO like FOC could help improve your own skills (public speaking /social interaction), etc
P: Probably? (Though none of that comes across in the email--seriously, the email is so badly written I'm disappointed no one made fun of it!) But since I don't watch TV myself it's not something I'm interested in.
Totally agree... none of that comes across in the email! It would totally take someone enterprising like IHM, TMM, or Kiran Manral to come up with something like I mentioned :D
