Coincidences are funny things.

Effe and I went to the same school. For ten and a half years. We knew each other, our moms made friends waiting to take us home when school was over. But we were always in different sections and we never made friends.

Then my dad took a job in a small town and we moved away from Guwahati. I came back in a couple of years to go to college. Effe was there too, and we had the same group of friends. We spent a lot of time together, in a group (of around a dozen people). I thought she was way too conformist and un-independent (she refused to bunk classes because her brother might see her). She thought I had a bad, selfish friend (she was right).

Two years later, most of that original circle had scattered, gone on to different colleges. A handful of us chose to do our graduation there, including me and Effe. We also found out we had chosen the same major.

Yes, coincidences are funny things. And there, stuck in the same class, we sat together, because we knew each other better than the rest of the class. We sat through the classes and ended up forgetting to go out when the bell rang because we were engrossed in carrying on the discussion that had started in class. It can't have taken more than a few such classes for us to really regard each other as friends.

So it was a less significant coincidence when, a few weeks ago, Effe told me she booked her tickets to come see me the same day I ordered her gift, for her 30th birthday.

And then, two days before she was due to come, she got ill. The flu, but with very high fever, and Effe rarely gets fever. She cancelled of course.

The next day, I felt unwell. Turns out I got the flu too.

Get well soon, Effe. You get better and maybe we'll meet sometime this year after all.

R's Mom: Yes, everything I wrote here is. It's too bad we've not had the weekend we'd been planning for weeks.

And thank you. I'm feeling all drugged-out and lethargic today. That's also why there have been no posts the last couple of days.

Pune weather's really acting up!
Half the people I know are falling ill with the flu.
Do get well soon.
And a get-well thought for Effe too :)

Darn that flu... took away my opportunity of seeing you two together. Hope you both get back to the pink of health soon!

hmmm... Half of my patients are down with an upper respiratory infection too. What are you taking for it?

Momofrs: Thanks. Glad to know it's not just me!

Pallu: I know, was looking forward to seeing you too.

Obelix: Oooh I have a doctor reader/commenter! A bunch of stuff, including nimesulide and paracetamol (which I've now stopped, so I feel slightly more alive today) and antibiotics and something. I hate drugs, but I can't seem to get better without them.

I think i told you some time ago. Antibiotics almost never help in common cold. Antihistaminics are a better option (that's the stuff that makes you drowsy, something like cetrizine or avil or diominic). You seem to be better now though :)

Obelix: Thanks, I'll keep that in mind next time. The doctor did say though, that the antibiotics were to prevent "secondary infections."
