Mid-Week Reads

Women and Work

The Wall Street Journal is covering women in the economy and has some great stories.

At each stage of advance in corporate America, men have at least twice the odds of advancing as women. How did Indra Nooyi do it?

Geena Davis speaks on gender inequality on TV and in movies. This isn't exactly a revelation, but sample this:
"They found that the more hours of television a girl watches, the fewer options she believes she has in life. And the more hours a boy watches, the more sexist his views become."
And here's how you fix the situation. Given the focus of the discussions, though, the use of "sex up" in #2 seems incongruous.

Other Stuff

Sue on proximities.

Confessions of a formerly angry black man.

I wish I was a "short sleeper": I'd get so much more done!

Self-compassion trumps self-esteem.

We all need playmates. I wish I had a cheetah cub to play with.

loved the series of articles on women at work.

And heartening to see that women on top have a very realistic view on what it is like for the rest of women still clambering up.
