I
read a number of
blog posts over the last few days about how rape apologists are defending Roman Polanski and suggesting that he might be excused for raping a 13-year-old child because he makes good movies. I metaphorically shrugged my shoulders, because what's new about rape apologists? (Remember the support for Anand Jon, anyone, or the horror that
Shiney Ahuja raped a maid?)
But then
I read that the rape apologists include Salman Rushdie, Woody Allen and Whoopi Goldberg. I am shocked and saddened. And speechless, for once.

I am shocked too. He was called a humanist by someone! I have written about this as well!
As the Salon piece said "Polanski raped a child, lets not forget that or let his celebrity hide that".
Salman Rushdie, Woody Allen? Are you kidding me? And they are still roaming free? I wanted to get my hands on a Salman Rushdie book someday. I don't anymore.
I liked Whoopi goldberg. Till I read that apparently, this was not 'rape-rape'. She is a woman too..how can one make a statement like that?
I am shocked that it doesn't just happen in India. And well known names trying to excuse him is even more difficult to digest...
There are others who feel his bad past (Holocaust and the murder of his wife Sharon Tate by Manson)should be reason enough to free him...
"Are you kidding me?" is right. What do you do in response to such shamefulness? Call them out on it, I suppose. I'm glad all of you agree.
